Ernst Rinderspacher (1879-1949)

Back to Catalogue

The Swiss glass-painted Ernst Rinderspacher belonged to the circle of Swiss expressionists and symbolists at the time of Ferdinand Hodler. He had exhibitions in Bern (at the Kunstmuseum), Zurich (at the Kunsthaus), Winterthur (at the Kunstmuseum), and Sils Maria im Engadin. He lived and worked for most of his life in the Oberengadin region (Sils im Fextal), after he had spent time studying in Freiburg im Breisgau, Strasbourg, Budapest, Zurich, Vienna, Munich, and Florence. Attracted by the landscape of the Oberengadin lakes, he produced in the region many atmospheric paintings on glass, which he frequently fashioned from unipartite panels with blue flashes.
