Although he died young, Albert Müller is a significant exponent of Swiss expressionism. During his principal creative period, between 1924 and 1926, he demonstrated the full array of his creative abilities, in painting, glass-painting, sculpture, drawing, and graphic art. His stained-glass work however consists of only a few executed panels. He developed an exuberant enthusiasm for the new pictorial and formal language of German modernism, which broke through in Basel with the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner exhibition in the Kunsthalle in 1923. Müller and Kirchner developed a deep friendship.
